Conversations with Israel and Palestine: Walid Salem

The Arab Peace Initiative, according to Walid Salem, is the only game in town. It has garnered support from 57 Arab and Muslim countries that are willing to offer full diplomatic ties in exchange for the creation of a Palestinian state along the 1967 borders. Yet as one might expect given Israel’s headlines over the past few years, the plan has barely been taken seriously by Israeli leaders.

In this call, Walid Salem of the Center for Democracy and Community Development discusses the details of the Arab Peace Initiative with an eye towards its changes and mechanisms for implementation. This is sure to be informative.

    Dear Adam,

I found it interesting that you used pieces of this Stanford bio while leaving out Walid’s past imprisonment and past association with the PFLP, which I have no problems with, but which often gets some people quite excited:

He was imprisoned by Israel a number of times in the 1970s and 80s for being an active political member of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine.

    Thanks,

    Ted
