The danger of a new wave of evictions is rapidly coming to a head. Israel’s High Court of Justice has just heard the final appeal of the Dweik family in the Silwan neighborhood and is set to hand down a precedential ruling that could impact hundreds more. The High Court is likewise about to issue a decision regarding the eviction of Palestinian families in Sheikh Jarrah after the residents turned down the court’s “compromise offer” that would have provisionally recognized a settler organization as the owner of the Palestinians’ houses. MK Lasky, a human rights attorney by trade, will explain the ins and outs of the current legal and political situation.
